Welcome to Trezor Start
Setting up your Trezor hardware wallet is the first step toward complete control of your digital assets. This guide walks you through every part of the setup — from unboxing to securing your recovery phrase. Whether you're new to crypto or experienced, the process is simple and intuitive.
Step 1: Unbox and Connect
Open your Trezor package carefully. Inside, you’ll find the device, a USB cable, a recovery card, and instruction materials. Examine your device to ensure it’s sealed and untampered.
Connect your Trezor to your computer using the provided USB cable. Avoid using adapters or hubs during setup to ensure a stable and secure connection.
Step 2: Visit trezor.io/start
Open your preferred browser and type trezor.io/start. You’ll be redirected to the official Trezor onboarding portal. Choose your Trezor model (Trezor Model One or Trezor Model T).
Follow the on-screen instructions to download Trezor Suite — the desktop application that manages your device, crypto accounts, and security settings.
Step 3: Install Trezor Suite
Once the installation is complete, launch Trezor Suite. It automatically detects your connected device. If prompted for firmware installation, click “Install” to ensure your device runs the latest version.
Trezor Suite is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can also access it through the web version, though the desktop app provides more security and offline support.
Step 4: Create a New Wallet
Click “Create New Wallet.” The Trezor will generate a brand-new cryptographic key — fully offline, ensuring nobody else can ever access it. Confirm wallet creation on your device’s screen.
During this step, your Trezor will display a unique set of 12, 18, or 24 recovery words known as your recovery seed phrase.
Step 5: Secure Your Recovery Seed
Write down each recovery word carefully on the provided recovery card. Keep it offline, and never take photos or store it digitally. This phrase is the only way to restore access to your wallet if your device is lost or damaged.
Store your recovery card in a secure, fireproof, and private location — preferably separate from your device. Treat it as the key to your entire digital vault.
Step 6: Set a PIN and Security Features
Next, set up a PIN code directly on your device. This adds an additional layer of protection. Choose a number you’ll remember but others can’t guess.
You can also enable features like passphrase protection — adding a custom word or sentence that acts as an extra secret. Remember: with Trezor, you are your own bank.
Step 7: Explore the Trezor Suite Dashboard
Once setup is complete, Trezor Suite opens your dashboard. You can check balances, send and receive cryptocurrencies, or view detailed transaction histories.
Trezor supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other assets. Each coin can be managed directly within the Suite or through integrated third-party wallets.
Step 8: Backup and Verify
Use the “Backup” feature to verify your recovery seed. Trezor will ask you to confirm words from your seed to ensure accuracy. Never share this phrase with anyone — not even Trezor support.
Once verified, your wallet is officially backed up and ready for safe use.
Ongoing Security Tips
- Always confirm website URLs before entering sensitive information.
- Keep your firmware and Trezor Suite updated.
- Use a strong PIN and consider passphrase protection.
- Disconnect your device when not in use.
- Never reveal your recovery seed online or via email.
